Corruption and white-collar crime undermine the foundations of fair market economy: decisions are not made based on efficiency criterion, superfluous investments are financed, upright companies are at risk and technical innovation is impeded.

The financial damage of the exposed cases of corruption is immense. Based on the number of unreported cases, which experts estimate is 95%, the actual damage is likely to be far higher. An affected company’s damaged reputation is an additional factor because the “value conscious” public punishes companies that do not pursue responsible financial, social and environmental business policy by thinking less highly of them and their image.
